Yesterday I had no idea who Jeremy Lin was.

Today, I’ve been instructed by mainstream media to ratchet up sensitivity when reporting on Asian-Americans.

Done.

Word on the street is, ‘insensitive‘ coverage of Lin resulted in the firing of one ESPN staffer and the suspension of another.

Thankfully, the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) has issued a strict set of guidelines all of us can reference to prevent further severe punishment.

Asian American Journalists Association Releases Guidelines On Jeremy Lin Media Coverage

(Yahoo) As NBA player Jeremy Lin’s prowess on the court continues to attract international attention and grab headlines, the Asian American Journalists Association AAJA would like to remind media outlets about relevance and context regarding coverage of race,” the group wrote in …

Oh forget it! Let’s jump right (L)in, shall we?

DANGER ZONES

CHINK“: Pejorative; do not use in a context involving an Asian person on someone who is Asian American. Extreme care is needed if using the well-trod phrase “chink in the armor”; be mindful that the context does not involve Asia, Asians or Asian Americans. (The appearance of this phrase with regard to Lin led AAJA MediaWatch to issue statement to ESPN, which subsequently disciplined its employees.)

DRIVING: This is part of the sport of basketball, but resist the temptation to refer to an “Asian who knows how to drive.”

EYE SHAPE: This is irrelevant. Do not make such references if discussing Lin’s vision.

FOOD: Is there a compelling reason to draw a connection between Lin and fortune cookies, takeout boxes or similar imagery? In the majority of news coverage, the answer will be no.

MARTIAL ARTS: You’re writing about a basketball player. Don’t conflate his skills with judo, karate, tae kwon do, etc. Do not refer to Lin as “Grasshopper” or similar names associated with martial-arts stereotypes.

ME LOVE YOU LIN TIME“: Avoid. This is a lazy pun on the athlete’s name and alludes to the broken English of a Hollywood caricature from the 1980s.

YELLOW MAMBA“: This nickname that some have used for Lin plays off the “Black Mamba” nickname used by NBA star Kobe Bryant. It should be avoided. Asian immigrants in the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries were subjected to discriminatory treatment resulting from a fear of a “Yellow Peril” that was touted in the media, which led to legislation such as the Chinese Exclusion Act.

It’s an historical achievement, surpassing popularity only the likes of Kim Jong Il could demand

From Sad Hill News guest writer, Robert Fine:

‘The president heads West in his latest cross-country trawl for campaign cash, just as his approval ratings reached the crucial 50% barrier, as claimed by NY Times / CBS News in their ‘magic poll.’ The strengthening jobs market and quickening economic news have improved his standing in several key states the president will need to capture if he is to win reelection in November. According to NY Times / CBS News, prior signs of weakening jobs growth and worsening economic doldrums had simply been misinterpreted by the public, but were properly explained to people responding to their polls. Racist Mitt Romney and chid molester Rick Santorum trail at 48% and 42%, accordingly. Nazi war criminal Newt Gingrich trails at 29%.’

Obama Rides West After Poll Boost

(AFP) President Barack Obama launched his latest cross-country trawl for campaign cash Wednesday and an effort to highlight the rebounding economy at an auspicious moment — as his approval rating hit 50 percent.

A New York Times/CBS News poll published on Wednesday provided the latest evidence that strengthening jobs growth and a quickening recovery are bolstering Obama’s prospects as he takes aim at November’s election.

While the news is not all good for Obama — his economic management gets low marks still from voters — the poll and other recent surveys suggest that prospective Republican challengers are less popular than the president.

The Times poll puts Obama in more comfortable political territory than he has enjoyed since before the 2010 mid-term congressional elections in which his Democratic Party was trounced by Republicans.

The survey pegged Obama’s job rating at exactly 50 percent — a key point, as history shows presidents at that level have a much higher change of reelection than those struggling to reach the plateau.

Obama reached the magic threshold nearly two weeks after the release of latest unemployment data which showed that the jobless rate dipped to 8.3 percent in January, the best mark since the start of his presidency.

Economic News Brightens Obama’s Re-Election Prospects

(Yahoo) President Barack Obama’s job approval rating has hit the 50-percent mark–an important reelection barometer–and he would beat any of the major Republican contenders for the White House if the vote were held today, according to a new CBS/New York Times public opinion poll that illustrates the political benefits of a steady stream of positive economic news.

In hypothetical match-ups, Obama bests Rick Santorum 49 percent to 41 percent, Mitt Romney 48 percent to 42 percent, Ron Paul 50 percent to 39 percent, and former House speaker Newt Gingrich 54 percent to 36 percent, according to the survey, which was conducted from Feb. 8 to Feb. 13. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Public opinion polls are just a snapshot of the country’s mood, and Nov. 6 is a long way off. A recent report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office sees unemployment staying above 8 percent, and potentially creeping up to around 9 percent by Election Day.

Earlier today, Big Brother’s liberal media was calling us ‘racists‘ after officially declaring Michelle Obama’s massive posterior to be ’off limits.’

Let’s check in now with the Orwellian MSM to further clarify their latest round of Newspeak we so fail to comprehend…

Andrea Mitchell, ‘Iowa Too White, Too Evangelical, Too Rural’

(NewsBusters) NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on New Year’s Day made it clear to Nightly News viewers that her Obama-loving network will continue using the race card to assist the current White House resident’s reelection.

In a brief segment about the upcoming Iowa caucuses, Mitchell said “the rap” on the Hawkeye state is that “it doesn’t represent the rest of the country – too white, too evangelical, too rural”:
