john boehner crying cries tan orange obama $1.2 trillion speaker sad hill news-1

Confession: I had the ‘opportunity’ to meet John Boehner at a small private gathering – 40 folks maybe, including the Secret Service agents. Most of the ‘Republicans’ in the room were hanging on his every word, cheering Boehner’s painfully obvious insincere promises. Perhaps most apparent was the good-cop-bad-cop routine at play – in cahoots with Obama. As-In, their mutual agreement to attack one another during the week – to keep ‘main’stream media operational – then golf together on weekends.

Pure political theater.

The Result: Shortly thereafter I launched Sad Hill News, recognizing yet another Neoconservative puppet – one that cries a lot – was going to hand future Democrats, Liberals and Communists absolute justification to blame a Republican-controlled House of Representatives for the most expensive, debt-incurring term in US History.

Yes, Obama is just as much to blame. But consider this… Obama and Boehner are nothing more than symptoms. Symptoms of what ails AmeriKa.

There is not a day that goes by where I am able to fathom or comprehend the resolve and seemingly endless patience of the American people. But. At what point does this so-called resilience and tolerance become sheer stupidity?

Historic Spending Achievement Under Obama and Boehner

(Dave Blount) Under his [Obama's] leadership, the current Congress has dug the country more deeply into debt than the first 97 Congresses combined. What makes this particularly impressive is that Congress is controlled by alleged Republicans:

Obama And Boehner Engineer 1.6 Trillion Debt In 15 Months – More Than Previous 97 Congresses Combined

(CNS) In the fifteen months that the Republican-controlled House of Representatives — led by Speaker John Boehner — has effectively enjoyed a constitutional veto over federal spending, the federal government’s debt has increased by about $1.59 trillion. …

The approximately $1.59 trillion in new debt accumulated since the Republican-controlled House gained a veto over federal spending legislation is more than the total increase in the federal debt between 1789, when the first Congress convened, and October 1984, when the 98th Congress was nearing the end of its second session. …

All of the debt accumulated by the federal government throughout the history of the country did not exceed $1.588 trillion until October 1984.

Under the Republican-controlled House, the federal debt has been increasing at an average pace of about $105.9 billion per month.

When the day of reckoning comes, and the entire economy collapses like a house of maxed out credit cards, the media will see to it that the GOP gets most of the blame. Thanks to the RINOs that Republicans continue to tolerate, much of it will be deserved.

UPDATE (06.05.2012): “But… but nobody warned us!”

Federal Debt Will Double In Less Than 15 Years

(Wash Times) The federal government is staring at a disastrous fiscal picture with debt approaching 200 percent of GDP within two decades if Congressdoesn’t change course on spending and taxes, according to the latest analysis by the Congressional Budget Office released Tuesday.

CBO said it’s the worst picture since a brief period during World War II when spending ballooned to fund the military campaign.

“In the past few years, the federal government has been recording the largest budget deficits since 1945, both in dollar terms and as a share of the economy. Consequently, the amount of federal debt held by the public has surged,” CBO said in a long-term budget outlook that paints a shockingly dark picture of government finances.

CBO’s analysts said the downturn and Congress’s response to it have been devastating for the government. Federal debt as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product — a standard measure of a government’s debt burden — stood at 40 percent at the end of 2008. But it will top 70 percent by the end of this year, and is only headed higher unlessCongress changes. It could double by the middle of the next decade and will have topped 200 percent of GDP — twice the size of the projected U.S. economy — by 2037.

At that level, fiscal catastrophes are more likely, and the government’s ability to respond becomes far more constrained.

Our remorseless deal-making Congress – where policy goes to the highest bidder.

It’s Time For A No Confidence Induced Change In Leadership

(RS) It is time to replace the GOP leadership in both Houses of Congress as both Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have proven once again that they are unable to deal with Obama and lead the Party. Again and again, even when in positions of strength, they get sucked into failed negotiations and compromises with the Democrats and deals they sell as wins for our side are handed back to us with a smirk and a laugh by the President as he violates our Constitution and his own promises and sticks a knife in the backs of the American people and gives it a hearty twist to boot. The President is going to add another $1.2 trillion dollars of debt on the backs of the People and has killed the desperately needed jobs and energy cost relief that the Keystone XL pipeline would have provided the American people. He’s actually doing a better job helping the economy of China than he is here at home where millions of our own citizens are suffering. Wake up America before it’s too late.

Reid’s Debt-Ceiling Bill Fails – Negotiators Polish Alternative Package

(Fox) Democrats’ debt-ceiling bill failed to clear a key Senate hurdle Sunday afternoon, putting the onus on bipartisan negotiators to come up with an alternative plan with just two days to go until the Treasury runs out of ways to pay all of America’s bills.

The vote on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s plan was expected to fail. Sixty votes were required to advance the proposal, and it fell far short in a 50-49 roll call.

The focus now turns almost exclusively to the latest round of talks being conducted among White House officials and Senate leaders. After disagreeing about the status of those negotiations the day before, Senate leaders indicated Sunday that they were making good progress on the new proposal.

Neither Debt Plan Will Work

(The Hill) The “limited magnitude” of both debt plans put forward by congressional leaders would not put the nation’s AAA credit rating back on solid footing, Moody’s Investors Service announced Friday.

“Reductions of the magnitude now being proposed, if adopted, would likely lead Moody’s to adopt a negative outlook on the AAA rating,” the credit rating agency said in a new report. “The chances of a significant improvement in the long-term credit profile of the government coming from deficit reductions of the magnitude proposed in either plan are not high.”

boehner deal obama budget cut beohner squeaker of the house mouse sad hill news

Today’s positive news of the ‘largest real dollar spending cut in American history‘ and a proposal that ‘cuts’ $500 billion from the federal budget over the next 10 years,… well,… isn’t that the same ‘positive thinking‘ that got us into this mess?

(CNSnews) The federal debt increased $54.1 billion in the eight days preceding the deal made by President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) to cut $38.5 billion in federal spending for the remainder of fiscal year 2011, which runs through September.

The debt was $14.2101 trillion on March 30, according to the Bureau of the Public Debt, and $14.2642 on April 7.

Since the beginning of the fiscal year on Oct. 1, 2010, the national debt has increased by $653.4 billion.

UPDATE (04.12.2011): Budget Tricks Helped Obama Save Program Cuts

(AP) The historic $38 billion in budget cuts resulting from at-times hostile bargaining between Congress and the Obama White House were accomplished in large part by pruning money left over from previous years, using accounting sleight of hand and going after programs President Barack Obama had targeted anyway.

Such moves permitted Obama to save favorite programs – Pell grants for poor college students, health research and “Race to the Top” aid for public schools, among others – from Republican knives, according to new details of the legislation released Tuesday morning.

The details of the agreement reached late Friday night just ahead of a deadline for a partial government shutdown reveal a lot of one-time savings and cuts that officially “score” as cuts to pay for spending elsewhere, but often have little to no actual impact on the deficit.

UPDATE (04.12.2011): Conservative Criticism Of Budget Compromise Growing

(Examiner) Influential conservatives are pushing the GOP’s far right flank to oppose the 2011 bill. Talk show host Rush Limbaugh panned the deal Monday and said the media and political pundits were too eager to praise Boehner, who he said should have pushed harder for deeper cuts.

“It doesn’t appear that the rank and file is buying any of the spin,” Limbaugh noted.

Chris Edwards, director of tax policy studies at the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, said Republicans may be angered that some of the cuts appear to be from areas of the budget President Obama had already intended to cut or target funds that haven’t been allocated yet for specific projects.

“I suspect some of the cuts may not be real cuts,” Edwards said, adding that “there may be a bit of a backlash” from conservatives.

Tea Party activists plan on making their disappointment known to the GOP leadership and individual Republican members.

UPDATE (04.12.2011): US Deficit Up 15.7% In First Half Of Fiscal 2011

(AFP) The US budget deficit shot up 15.7 percent in the first six months of fiscal 2011, the Treasury Department said Wednesday as political knives were being sharpened for a new budget battle.

The Treasury reported a deficit of $829 billion for the October-March period, compared with $717 billion a year earlier, as revenue rose a sluggish 6.9 percent as the economic recovery slowly gained pace.

The Treasury argued that the pace of increase in the deficit was deceptive because of large one-off reductions in expenditures made during the first half of fiscal 2010, compared with previous and subsequent periods.

Those included a $115 billion reduction in funds spent on the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) — the financial institution bailout program — in March 2010.

UPDATE (04.12.2011): Boehner-Obama Deal Leaves FY11 Spending $773 Billion Above FY08 Level – About As Big An Increase As Obama’s Stimulus

(CNS) The budget deal cut late Friday by President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) will allow $3.7555 trillion in federal spending in this fiscal year.

That is $773 billion more than federal spending was in fiscal year 2008–the fiscal year before Congress enacted a bailout for the banking industry requested by President George W. Bush and a $787-billion economic stimulus law request by President Barack Obama.

On Friday night, Boehner and Reid released a joint press statement saying that together with President Obama they had reached an agreement to cut spending in fiscal year 2011 to a level $78.5 billion below the president’s original budget request. “We will cut $78.5 billion below the President’s 2011 budget proposal,” they said.

President Obama’s 2011 budget proposal asked for $3.834 trillion in spending. Subtracting $78.5 billion from that leaves $3.7555 trillion in spending.

In fiscal 2008, according to the Office of Management and Budget, the federal government spent $2.982544 trillion–or $772.95 billion less than the $3.7555 trillion the Boehner-Obama deal will allow the federal government to spend this year.

That $773 billion in spending that the federal government will do this year over and above the federal spending level of 2008 equals 98 percent of the $787 billion stimulus signed by President Obama in February 2000—on the premise that it was a one-time, short-term spending escalation needed to pump up the economy in a time of recession.

UPDATE (04.12.2011): Budget ‘Deal’ Cuts $226 Million From Border Fence Project

(Hill) In dueling press releases, House Republicans emphasized the magnitude of cuts they won in the six-month spending bill after marathon negotiations, while Senate Democrats emphasized cuts they were able to avoid or diminish. . . .

The Homeland Security Department sees significant cuts as well: $226 million is cut from the southern border fence at the suggestion of the Obama administration, and the number of Transportation Security Administration workers is capped. FEMA first-responder grants are cut by $786 million.

UPDATE (04.12.2011): White House Concedes on Rhetoric

(National Journal) The meat of the spending deal struck between the two parties late Friday night was revealed in a legislative omnibus released early Tuesday morning. The specifics show that finding nearly $40 billion in cuts during the 2011 fiscal year required clever accounting and, for the White House, a willingness to concede on rhetoric to find gains on substance.

For example, the final cuts in the deal are advertised as $38.5 billion less than was appropriated in 2010, but after removing rescissions, cuts to reserve funds, and reductions in mandatory spending programs, discretionary spending will be reduced only by $14.7 billion.

UPDATE (04.13.2011): Budge ‘Deal’ Cuts Fiscal Deficit By $352 Million – NOT $38 Billion

(Washington Post) A new budget estimate released Wednesday shows that the spending bill negotiated between President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner would produce less than 1 percent of the $38 billion in promised savings by the end of this budget year.

The Congressional Budget Office estimate shows that compared with current spending rates the spending bill due for a House vote Thursday would cut federal outlays from non-war accounts by just $352 million through Sept. 30. About $8 billion in immediate cuts to domestic programs and foreign aid are offset by nearly equal increases in defense spending.

When war funding is factored in the legislation would actually increase total federal outlays by $3.3 billion relative to current levels.
