Janet Napolitano Says So
(NYPOST) Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Wednesday that the Secret Service prostitution scandal created no threat to the safety of President Barack Obama.
“There was no risk to the president,” Napolitano told the Senate Judiciary Committee, citing information supplied to her by Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan.
Napolitano said a “thorough and full investigation is underway” and that Sullivan has her and Obama’s “full confidence.”
Twelve agents were implicated in the scandal. Eight have been forced out of the agency, one agent is in the process of having his security credentials revoked and three have been cleared of serious misconduct but face “administrative action.”
The agents and twelve members of the US military were accused of engaging in a night of partying with Colombian prostitutes and bringing women back with them to their Cartagena hotel rooms. The incident occurred prior to Obama’s arrival in the city for the Summit of the Americas earlier this month.

UPDATE: Secret Service, “We Do This Sort Of Thing Regularly”
(WaPo) Some Secret Service employees accused of misconduct in the Colombian prostitution scandal are privately contending that their conduct didn’t warrant dismissal because senior managers tolerated similar behavior during official trips, according to people familiar with the employees’ thinking.
Several of the men who agreed to resign under pressure last week are also considering reversing their decisions and fighting to keep their jobs, said the people knowledgeable about the case.
The prospect of Secret Service agents sharing embarrassing tales about rank-and-file employees and superiors partying to the hilt could bring more anguish to an agency reeling from scandal.

Project Milkrunner: Feds Shut Down Amish Farm For Selling Fresh Milk
(Washington Times) The FDA won its two-year fight to shut down an Amish farmer who was selling fresh raw milk to eager consumers in the Washington, D.C., region after a judge this month banned Daniel Allgyer from selling his milk across state lines and he told his customers he would shut down his farm altogether.
The decision has enraged Mr. Allgyer’s supporters, some of whom have been buying from him for six years and say the government is interfering with their parental rights to feed their children.
But the Food and Drug Administration, which launched a full investigation complete with a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and a straw-purchase sting operation against Mr. Allgyer’s Rainbow Acres Farm, said unpasteurized milk is unsafe and it was exercising its due authority to stop sales of the milk from one state to another.
Adding to Mr. Allgyer’s troubles, Judge Lawrence F. Stengel said that if the farmer is found to violate the law again, he will have to pay the FDA’s costs for investigating and prosecuting him.
His customers are wary of talking publicly, fearing the FDA will come after them.
“I can’t believe in 2012 the federal government is raiding Amish farmers at gunpoint all over a basic human right to eat natural food,” said one of them, who asked not to be named but received weekly shipments of eggs, milk, honey and butter from Rainbow Acres, a farm near Lancaster, Pa. “In Maryland, they force taxpayers to pay for abortions, but God forbid we want the same milk our grandparents drank.”
The FDA, though, said the judge made the right call in halting Mr. Allgyer’s cross-border sales.
“Intrastate sale of raw milk is allowed in Pennsylvania, and Mr. Allgyer had previously received a warning letter advising him that interstate sale of raw milk for human consumption is illegal,” agency spokeswoman Siobhan DeLancey said.

Fans of fresh milk, which they also call raw milk, attribute all kinds of health benefits to it, including better teeth and stronger immune systems. Raw milk is particularly popular among parents who want it for their children.
In a unique twist, the movement unites people on the left and the right who argue that the federal government has no business controlling what people choose to consume.

Homeland Security Monitors Journalists
(RT) Freedom of speech might allow journalists to get away with a lot in America, but the Department of Homeland Security is on the ready to make sure that the government is keeping dibs on who is saying what.
Under the National Operations Center (NOC)’s Media Monitoring Initiative that came out of DHS headquarters in November, Washington has the written permission to retain data on users of social media and online networking platforms.
Specifically, the DHS announced the NCO and its Office of Operations Coordination and Planning (OPS) can collect personal information from news anchors, journalists, reporters or anyone who may use “traditional and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and informed.”
According to the Department of Homeland Security’s own definition of personal identifiable information, or PII, such data could consist of any intellect “that permits the identity of an individual to be directly or indirectly inferred, including any information which is linked or linkable to that individual.” Previously established guidelines within the administration say that data could only be collected under authorization set forth by written code, but the new provisions in the NOC’s write-up means that any reporter, whether someone along the lines of Walter Cronkite or a budding blogger, can be victimized by the agency.
Also included in the roster of those subjected to the spying are government officials, domestic or not, who make public statements, private sector employees that do the same and “persons known to have been involved in major crimes of Homeland Security interest,” which to itself opens up the possibilities even wider.
[...] it doesn’t help but raise suspicion as to why the government is going out of their way to spend time, money and resources on watching over those that helped bring news to the masses.

The website Fast Company reports that the intel collected by the Department of Homeland Security under the NOC Monitoring Initiative has been happening since as early as 2010 and the data is being shared with both private sector businesses and international third parties.

Indict Eric Holder
(Investors) A major-league pitcher was indicted for lying to Congress about steroid use. Administration memos show Eric Holder lied about what he knew about Fast and Furious and when he knew it. What’s the difference?
Somewhere, Scooter Libby must be scratching his head. He was indicted and convicted simply because his recall of when a meeting occurred differed from others. He didn’t lie about a gun-running operation that led to the deaths of two American agents and at least 200 Mexicans.
But Attorney General Eric Holder did, according to memos obtained by CBS News and Fox News.
They show Holder lied to Congress on May 2, 2011, when he was asked about when he knew about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Fast and Furious gun-running operation. He told House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa he was “not sure of the exact date, but I probably learned about Fast and Furious over the last few weeks.”
Holder learned of the operation as early as July 2010 in a memo from the director of the National Drug Intelligence Center informing him of an operation run by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force out of the Phoenix ATF office, under which “straw purchasers are responsible for the purchase of 1,500 firearms that were then supplied to Mexican drug cartels.”
On Oct. 18, 2010, one of Holder’s chief deputies, Lanny Breuer, chief of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, told Holder in a memo that prosecutors were ready to issue indictments of a few gun traffickers involved in Fast and Furious.
A memo the day before from Deputy Attorney General Jason Weinstein to another lawyer in the Criminal Division, James Trusty, asked if Breuer should do a press conference when Fast and Furious became known.
“It’s a tricky case,” Weinstein wrote, “considering the number of guns that have walked.” Trusty replied, “It’s not going to be any big surprise that a bunch of guns are being used in MX (Mexico), so I’m not so sure how much grief we’ll get for ‘gun walking.’”

TSA Official Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of TSA Employee
(Clarion-Ledger) One of the top federal Transportation Security Administration officials in the state of Mississippi has been arrested in connection with the killing of TSA worker Stacey Wright.
On Sunday, D’Iberville police found Wright, 43, stabbed to death in her apartment there.
Authorities said Ruben Orlando Benitez, 45, who serves as assistant federal security director for screening for the TSA in Mississippi, has been arrested.
Bond has been set for $3 million by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.

Youth Football Brawl
(HeraldTribune) It started with a disputed call, followed by some disgruntled coaches throwing water bottles at the referees.
What happened next, captured on video and now being investigated by authorities, is shocking: more than a dozen youth football coaches and players attacking at least one referee, including a player in full gear except for his helmet flying into a referee and tackling him to the ground.
Felony charges could follow an investigation into what happened Saturday — and who did what — during the game between the age 13-14 junior teams of the Sarasota Gators and North Port Huskies played at Riverview High School.
The investigation will be easier for authorities since the fight was videotaped by someone in the stands and turned over to the Sheriff’s Office.
Debbie Ismail, a “team mom” whose son Adam plays for the Huskies pee wee team, was just feet away from the melee.
Ismail said the fight started minutes before halftime over some disputed calls, and the coaches from the Gators started throwing water bottles at the referees.

“I felt really bad for the ref that got beat up,” he said.
Ismail said the referee was taken away in an ambulance.
“The video speaks for itself,” Sarasota County Sheriff’s Col. Steve Burns said. “It was disturbing.”

Punches were thrown between the two men, who started grappling, until a Gator player wearing the number 6 dives in and levels the referee. The boy then celebrates his hit on the official, the video shows.
As another referee tries to protect the referee on the ground, other Gators coaches, players and fans swarm the field, and one man appears to try to kick the grounded referee in the head.
