This Arizona prune wants to ensure that anyone can be President of the United States.
(Forbes) Arizona governor Jan Brewer has vetoed two controversial pieces of legislation, putting an end to the so-called “birther bill” which would require presidential candidates to provide long-form birth certificates to the Arizona secretary of state in order to be placed on the ballot. Her veto also stopped a controversial law which would have allowed gun owners to carry guns on college and K-12 campuses.
HB 2177, the “birther” bill, “creates significant new problems while failing to do anything constructive for Arizona,” Brewer said.
The bill would have required presidential candidates to present their birth certificates or other birth records to be eligible to be on the ballot.
I will say it again: Arizona is full of surprises, and Brewer is no exception. You just don’t know what on earth to expect from the woman. One moment she’s defending the most controversial piece of immigration legislation in the country, SB 1070, the next she’s turning against her own party and pulling out the veto pen on gun rights and birtherism.
Janet Brewer’s infamous primetime brain fart:
UPDATE (04.19.2011 – h/t Zip): McCain Applauds Veto of ‘Birther’ Bill
(The Hill) Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) applauded his state’s governor, Jan Brewer (R), Monday for vetoing a controversial “birther” bill.
The legislation, the first of its kind in the nation, would have required presidential candidates to prove their citizenship to be included on the state’s ballot.
McCain, President Obama’s GOP opponent in 2008, tweeted:
‘Proud of @GovBrewer for her veto of the “birther bill” – it was the right decision.’
The bill stemmed from suspicions of some of Obama’s opponents that he is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is thus ineligible to be commander in chief.
UPDATE (04.19.2011 – h/t IOTW): Governor Jindal Will Sign ‘Birther’ Bill If It Reaches His Desk
(NOLA) Gov. Bobby Jindal would sign a bill requiring presidential candidates to provide a copy of their birth certificate to qualify for the Louisiana ballot if it reaches his desk, a spokesman said Monday.
“It’s not part of our package, but if the Legislature passes it we’ll sign it,” press secretary Kyle Plotkin said.
House Bill 561 was filed last week by two Republican lawmakers.
The bill by state Rep. Alan Seabaugh, R-Shreveport, and Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, would require federal candidates who want to appear on Louisiana ballots to file an affidavit attesting to their citizenship, which would have to be accompanied by an “original or certified copy” of their birth certificate.
The requirement also would apply to candidates for U.S. Senate or the House of Representatives.
A similar bill was recently passed by the Arizona legislature.
UPDATE (04.20.2011): ‘White House Snubbed Me’ After Vetoing Birther Bill
(Politico) Fresh off her veto of her state’s “birther” bill, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says that the White House gave her a “snub” by leaving her off the guest list for a meeting about immigration reform.
“I wish I would have been invited,” the Republican said Tuesday night on Fox News. “You would have thought one of the governors would have been invited, since we are on the front lines fighting for security there. It was a little bit of a snub, if you will.” More broadly, she said, the meeting illustrated a disconnect between President Barack Obama’s immigration policy goals and the reality on the ground in border states.

‘I was hoping it was obvious that this was satire, but apparently it’s still too close to reality. Lesson learned.’
That said, the Arizona professor video clip and Sad Hill News links below are authentic. The Photoshop of Obama riding a bicycle in Arizona while sporting a sombrero, an Islamic safety flag and a future-Democrat-detecting teleprompter is also ‘authentic’.
Putting America on the fast track to globalization is a snap when its leaders ignore sovereign boundaries and – using collected tax dollars – sue their loyal subjects into oblivion. But why stop there when Obama can eradicate ‘the playing field‘ on behalf of illegal aliens and the drug cartel in order to secure millions, I repeat, millions of undocumented Democrat voters?
(Doug Ross) Citing concerns that illegal aliens are facing increasing opposition from U.S. natives worried about employment, MS-13 gang activity, and strained social services, President Obama launched his new “Undocumented Americans” initiative in a sparsely attended Rose Garden ceremony.
The president stated that, “It is imperative that Undocumented Americans be granted collective bargaining rights” that will “force employers to take their demands seriously“. Obama also noted that it would “level the playing field with documented Americans in the interest of global fairness.”
Arizona Yavapai College professor, Dr. Terry J. Lovell, clearly explains the absurdity of a president suing his citizens:
“For the first time in the history of this country, the President of the United States has taken the side of the drug cartels against the law abiding citizens of a state.”

And the hits just keep on coming…
Sheriff Larry Dever of Cochise County, Ariz. told CNSNews.com that President Barack Obama has “got his hands wrapped around our throat” as his administration sues the state of Arizona for trying to enforce the immigration laws that the federal government itself will not enforce.
Dever also said he has “zero confidence” Obama will secure the border before his presidential term is up in two years and that the president is putting the people who live and work in Cochise County at risk by willfully failing to secure that border so that he can maintain political leverage for his goal of winning an amnesty for illegal aliens.
“No. He’s as much as said so,” said Dever. “He’s playing the border security card, holding that, his trump card, to get immigration reform. And he’s basically said, you’re not going to get the kind of border enforcement you want, you’re asking for, unless you give me immigration reform.”
When CNSNews.com asked Dever if he was saying that President Obama was putting ranchers, other people in his county and the even Border Patrol agents who worked there at risk by holding off on securing the border while trying to win an amnesty for illegal aliens, Dever said: “If that’s what it seems like I’m saying, let me just make it perfectly clear, as the president likes to say: That’s exactly what I’m saying.”
Doublespeak Queen: Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security.
Doublespeak Examples: Queen Janet responds to questions about sending U.S. National Guard troops to enforce America’s border security…
Napolitano Response #1 — July 2010: “The [1,200] National Guard troops assigned to the Arizona border will begin to arrive Aug. 1, and the federal government is sending other reinforcements to stem the flow of illegal immigrants and narcotics entering the state.”
Napolitano Response #2 — August 2010: “The troops – pledged to Arizona and other border states – won’t be in place for weeks, even months.”
Napolitano Response #3 — September 17, 2010: “This is a civilian border. The National Guard is not designed to be a substitute for civilian law enforcement. Civilian law enforcement is being ‘plussed-up’ at record rates. And it’s being ‘plussed up’ all along the border. It’s being backed up by state of the art technology and it’s being backed up by infrastructure and that’s the way you have a secure border area.”
Janet added, “But I think the key thing is, let’s look at the metrics.”
“The last thing I want is a headline saying, ‘[Texas Governor] Rick Perry: call up your National Guard,” Napolitano said.
In response to Queen Doublespeak, a Perry aide noted that when Napolitano was Arizona’s governor, she repeatedly called on the Bush Administration to deploy troops to the border.
Janet’s response, “If he [Perry] wants more Guard along the border, he can send them there from Texas himself.”
At a Q-and-A session this week, Janet attempted to ‘explain’ her position on illegal aliens…
Napolitano Doublespeak (Exhibit A): “Napolitano dismissed rumors that her agency will grant widespread amnesty for illegal immigrants, even if Congress does not act on comprehensive immigration legislation.”
Napolitano Doublespeak (Exhibit B): “Napolitano did underscore the administration’s backing for a bill, known as the DREAM Act, which would allow some aliens to stay in the U.S. if they came illegally as minors and are attending high school or college. We do believe the DREAM Act would be a good thing. This is intended for people who have no culpability really for how they were brought across the border,” she said. “Many of them have no relationship at all to their country of origin, if they even speak the language there.”
Hopefully Janet Napolitano is rightsized during headcount adjustment when America plusses down government to neutralize its service, asap.
FYI — Majority Leader Harry Reid plans to attach the measure to a defense authorization bill, up for consideration next week on the Senate floor.

Hat tip: Zippers
Last year Phoenix community colleges requested immigrants to show their green card before they were hired. As of monday, the DOJ’s civil rights division decided to sue the colleges for damages, claiming they ‘intentionally committed document abuse discrimination.’
This from the LA Times,
“Employers who hire illegal immigrants can be fined, but the Obama administration warned this week that they also can be fined for asking legal immigrants to show their green cards before hiring them.”
Hiring an unauthorized alien can result in $3,000 fines per person under Federal immigration law, yet a separate provision in the law forbids employers from requesting ‘more or different documents’ to prove ‘legal status’ of a noncitizen.
DOJ Motto: Punish citizens correctly abiding by the law incorrectly.
The Justice Department is seeking ‘full remedial relief’ for 247 noncitizens who applied for community college jobs between August 2008 and January 2010, plus a civil penalty of $1,100 for each illegal applicant.

Today the U.S. Justice Department sued Sheriff Joe Arpaio, again. This time alleging discrimination, unconstitutional searches and having English-only policies in his jails that discriminate against those who possess limited English skills. Arizona was previously sued by the federal government in an attempt to block its new immigration law, under which police officers have the right to inquire about one’s immigration status.
The Feds are here to help, Joe. Why just this week the POTUS tattled on Arizona to the UN, only 2 weeks after Janet Napolitano reneged on her promise of assigning 1,200 troops to the US-Mexico border. When no troops arrived on August 1, 2010 – the assured arrival date – Napolitano remained quiet until August 11th.
Janet backtracked, “The first began arriving, or the command and control elements began arriving, on the 1st of August. They should all be there within, I would say, 30 to 60 days.”
Yesterday Pinal County Sheriff, Paul Babeu told CNS News they have 30 [National Guard troops] as of this week.
“It’s less than a half-hearted measure designed to fail,” Paul said.
Paul is a whiner. Besides, the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) placed nearly 15 signs along Interstate 8 last month, warning travelers of drug cartels and ‘human trafficking operations.’
The signs read, “DANGER – PUBLIC WARNING, TRAVEL NOT RECOMMENDED,” and “Visitors May Encounter Armed Criminals and Smuggling Vehicles Traveling at High Rates of Speed,” and “BLM Encourages Visitors To Use Public Land North of Interstate 8.”
Problem solved. Any other ungrateful comments, Paul?
“I think the American people are outraged that we can fight wars half-way around the world, send our nation’s treasury and our most precious resources – our American heroes that serve in the military – and yet here in our own country somehow they believe it’s okay for us not to have a secure border,” said Babeu. “And that it’s okay to put up signs in my county and parts of America to surrender parts of our country to foreign born criminals, warning our own American citizens to stay out.”
Someone hand Paul a glass of ‘Kool-Aid.’ His sound logic is beginning to annoy me.
The US Department of Justice is suing Arizona, again. This from the Washington Post:
“The suit against the Phoenix area Maricopa Community Colleges was filed less than two months after the Justice Department sued Arizona and Gov. Jan Brewer (R) over the state’s new immigration law. It also comes as the department is investigating Joe Arpaio, the sheriff in Maricopa County, who is known for tough immigration enforcement.”
