Largest SouthEast Solar Farm All Set For Construction
(FLToday) What would be the Southeast’s largest solar power farm is set for construction in the Florida Panhandle.
Melbourne-based National Solar Power on Monday announced it would build the $1.5 billion solar array in Gadsden County, just west of Tallahassee.
The facility is expected to generate 400 megawatts — enough electricity to power 32,000 homes.
The project also is expected to provide jobs for 400 construction workers over five years and up to 120 permanent employees.
National Solar has an agreement to provide electricity to Progress Energy Florida, which serves parts of central and north Florida.

White House Jobs Plan Would Cost $200,000 Per Job
(Alphabet News) Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner didn’t dispute a Harvard economist’s estimate that each job in the White House’s jobs plan would cost $200,000, but said the pricetag is the wrong way to measure the bill’s worth.
And he also pointed out, in an interview today with ABC News’ David Muir, that there is no other option on the table for getting the economy moving and putting more people back to work.
“You’ve got to think about the costs of the alternatives,” Geithner said when asked about Harvard economist Martin Feldstein’s calculation that each job created by President Obama’s American Jobs Act would cost taxpayers about $200,000.
“If government does nothing, it does nothing now because they’re scared by politics or they want to debate what’s perfect, then there will be fewer Americans back to work, the economy will be weaker,” he said.
“We can borrow money for 10 years as the government of the United States because people have confidence in this country at less than 2 percent,” he said. “The responsible path now is to take advantage of the unique position we’re in as a country. People have a lot of confidence in us. Let’s take advantage of that now to do things that help growth in the short-term.”

Affirmative Action Bake Sale At Berkeley Angers Liberals
(NY Daily) A controversy over cupcakes is heating up at UC Berkeley in California, where campus Republicans are planning to hold an affirmative action bake sale on Tuesday.
At the sale, white men will be charged $2 for a baked good, Asians will pay $1.50, Latinos $1, African-Americans 75 cents and 25 cents for Native Americans, KGO-TV reported.
Women will get a 25 cent discount.
“The pricing structure is there to bring attention, to cause people to get a little upset,” Campus Republican president Shawn Lewis told the TV station. “But it’s really there to cause people to think more critically about what this kind of policy would do in university admissions.”
The Campus Democrats immediately slammed the sale, which Lewis said is meant to take a stand against an affirmative action-like bill for the University of California system that is awaiting Gov. Jerry Brown’s signature.
On Friday, the student newspaper reported that the student government could vote to defund the Republican group over the bake sale. A hearing is scheduled for Sunday on the fiery issue.
“I fully support the idea of members of BCR expressing their views on SB 185, and I believe that there should be dialogue and discussion surrounding this issue, but I do not think that this method is constructive,” said ASUC President Vishalli Loomba in an email to the newspaper.
Lewis told the newspaper the whole bake sale was meant to protest a student government-sponsored phone bank which supported the bill.
“They never asked the other side,” he said
He added that the Campus Republicans were a diverse group themselves – and the decision had been made by Republicans of many races.

Obama Hails ‘Intercontinental Railroad’… Again
(Michelle Malkin – Hi Michelle!) Yesterday, President Obama promoted his “jobs bill” at a bridge that might not even be eligible for jobs bill money. Andrew Malcolm at Top of the Ticket noticed something during Obama’s latest “Bridge to Bankruptcy” speech that would be much more widely reported if Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin had said it: the Transcontinental Railroad has become the Intercontinental Railroad:
“We’re the country that built the Intercontinental Railroad,” Barack Obama.
That’s what the president of the United States flat-out said Thursday during what was supposed to be a photo op to sell his jobs plan next to an allegedly deteriorating highway bridge.
A railroad between continents? A railroad from, say, New York City all the way across the Atlantic to France? Now, THAT would be a bridge!
It’s yet another humorous gaffe by the Harvard graduate, overlooked by most media for whatever reason. Like Obama saying Abraham-Come-Lately Lincoln was the founder of the Republican Party. Or Navy corpseman. Or the Austrian language. Fifty-seven states. The president of Canada. Etc.
The “Intercontinental Railroad” gaffe might be overlooked by most of the media because they’re used to hearing it referred to that way. Back in February, Obama said the same thing. At this point it’s probably easier for Obama’s staff to try and get all the history books changed to match what their boss is saying rather than tell him he’s been getting it wrong.
Speaking of an Intercontinental Railroad, just think about how many jobs could be created by building such a thing to span continents. I know, I shouldn’t joke around like that, lest somebody in power think it’s a good idea.

(Fox) House Democrats on Thursday evening warned that Republican attempts to rein in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations would lead directly to adverse health effects across America.
Members were debating H.R. 2401, which would create a commission to weight the impact of recent EPA rules and delay pending rules on mercury and air pollution. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) said delaying these two pending rules in particular would lead to immediate adverse health consequences.
“Each year these rules will prevent tens of thousands of premature deaths, tens of thousands of heart attacks, and hundreds of thousands of asthma attacks,” he said on the House floor. “It will also prevent almost two million lost work days.
“If this legislation is enacted, these public health benefits will be lost, and more babies will be born with birth defects and learning disabilities,” he added.

(Associated Press) In record-setting numbers, young adults struggling to find work are shunning long-distance moves to live with Mom and Dad, delaying marriage and buying fewer homes, often raising kids out of wedlock. They suffer from the highest unemployment since World War II and risk living in poverty more than others – nearly 1 in 5.
New 2010 census data released Thursday show the wrenching impact of… [wait for it... wait for it... here it comes...] a recession that officially ended in mid-2009.
It highlights the missed opportunities and dim prospects for a generation of mostly 20-somethings and 30-somethings coming of age in a prolonged slump with high unemployment.
“We have a monster jobs problem, and young people are the biggest losers,” said Andrew Sum, an economist and director of the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University. He noted that for recent college grads now getting by with waitressing, bartending and odd jobs, they will have to compete with new graduates for entry-level career positions when the job market eventually does improve.
“Their really high levels of underemployment and unemployment will haunt young people for at least another decade,” Sum said.

Obama Tears Up The US Constitution
(Washington Times) The Constitution of the United States, whose adoption we celebrate every Sept. 17, clearly lists the powers of each branch of the national government. Let’s take a look at what Barack Obama, like any president, is empowered to do and see if it squares with his actions. In Article II, Section 1, he is sworn to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Section 2 names the president as commander in chief of the armed forces, grants him the power to make treaties with the advice and consent of the Senate and to appoint ambassadors, federal judges, Cabinet officials and other federal officers. Section 3 says the president “shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
In his two years and nine months in office, President Obama has compiled a spectacular record of noncompliance with the Constitution. Here are just some of the ways his administration has failed to execute the laws while using raw, unauthorized power:

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA): On Feb. 23, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced that under Mr. Obama’s direction, the Justice Department would no longer defend DOMA, which is under attack in several federal courts. DOMA, which was passed by overwhelming majorities in Congress and signed into law by President Clinton in 1996, defines marriage for all federal purposes as the union of a man and a woman and allows states under the full-faith-and-credit clause not to be forced to recognize unions from other states that do not comport with their state marriage laws. Forty-five states have moved to strengthen their marriage laws, with 30 enacting constitutional amendments. Mr. Obama, who has played coy with the marriage issue while aggressively promoting the homosexual agenda, is violating his oath of office to appease the gay lobby.
The 15th Amendment: Under Mr. Obama, the Justice Department has effectively become a race-based enforcement unit. After New Black Panther Party members were caught on tape intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place in 2008, the Justice Department declined to defend the convictions and thus sent the message that baton-wielding thuggishness on Election Day is no big deal. Former Justice Department attorney J. Christian Adams, who laid out the case before the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, described the administration’s dismissal of charges as “lawless hostility toward equal enforcement of the law.”
Illegal Immigration: The Obama administration has ignored the illegal actions of “sanctuary cities” and sued the state of Arizona in July 2010 for enforcing federal law. Then, last month, the administration announced a new policy that, in effect, ends enforcement of illegal immigration, providing the illegal alien meets the requirements of the Dream Act, a bill Congress failed to pass. So, Mr. Obama is ignoring current federal law while creating rules based on a law that never passed.
“Cap and trade”: In 2010, the Senate rejected a sweeping environmental bill that would have created a massive federal carbon regulation system. Despite this, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that it would treat carbon dioxide (the air we breathe out) as a pollutant and begin cracking down on America’s businesses and power plants. The EPA has become a law unto itself. The Obama administration also has ignored a federal judge’s ruling that it acted illegally in prohibiting new drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
Obscenity laws: The Obama administration, like the George W. Bush administration before it, has ignored federal laws against selling obscene materials, prosecuting only a handful of cases. Even though the law is clear and courts routinely hand down convictions, U.S. attorneys don’t bother to enforce the law anymore, given the direction from the top. The result is that the Internet is awash in illegal obscenity and even mainstream hotels peddle obscene materials via pay TV.
The Fifth Amendment: The Constitution guarantees that no one is deprived of his or her property without “due process of law” or “just compensation.” The National Labor Relations Board’s absurd order to the Boeing Co. not to open a newly built $750-million Dreamliner facility in right-to-work South Carolina, because unions in Boeing’s home state of Washington object, violates that guarantee. Even liberal New York Times columnist Joseph Nocera commented, “Seriously, when has a government agency ever tried to dictate where a company makes its products? I can’t ever remember it happening.”
The First Amendment: The NLRB struck again this year, declaring two Catholic universities – St. Xavier University in Chicago and Manhattan College in New York – not sufficiently “religious.” If the holdings stand, the schools may see the NLRB assert jurisdiction and rope the faculty and employees into a union election.
While ignoring laws that he is obligated to enforce, Mr. Obama has added other duties that would leave America’s Founders scratching their heads. As columnist Don Feder notes, “Right out of the gate, there was his salaam to the Saudi king and his declaration in the course of a 2009 speech at Cairo University that ‘I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.’ That’s in the Presidential-Responsibility-To-Fight-Negative-Stereotypes-Of-Islam section of the Constitution.”
More frightening is Mr. Obama’s heavy-handed seizure of the nation’s health care system and Obamacare’s unconstitutional mandate for everyone to purchase health insurance. Nowhere, not even in the much-abused commerce clause, does the Constitution give the government the right to force citizens to engage in commerce. If Obamacare is upheld, government bureaucrats can pretty much order us to do anything they want.
This list, which could be longer, should include Mr. Obama’s failure as commander in chief to lead our armed forces with honor. Can you imagine George Washington’s or Gen. George S. Patton’s response to the Obama administration’s doctoring of results of a troop survey, leaking misleading “findings” to the press, ignoring strong opposition by combat troops and ramming through a policy of homosexualizing the armed forces? This violates 235 years of tradition in the world’s finest military.

TSA Official Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of TSA Employee
(Clarion-Ledger) One of the top federal Transportation Security Administration officials in the state of Mississippi has been arrested in connection with the killing of TSA worker Stacey Wright.
On Sunday, D’Iberville police found Wright, 43, stabbed to death in her apartment there.
Authorities said Ruben Orlando Benitez, 45, who serves as assistant federal security director for screening for the TSA in Mississippi, has been arrested.
Bond has been set for $3 million by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.

Last year at the National Championship Air Races pilot George Giboney was running in the Super Sport Gold race when his P51 Mustang replica named ‘Rapid Travel’ went down shortly after take-off (story and photo sequence: HERE). Miraculously, George exited the wreckage unharmed.
This year another P51 went down. Sadly, the results were deadly.
P51 Crashes At Reno Air Races
(news10) An airplane has crashed near the grandstand at the National Championship Air Races near Reno, Nev.
According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, there were 30 serious and 30 intermediate injuries, Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez said. KOLO-TV reports 12 people have died.
A P51 Mustang missed the grandstand but hit box stands at around 4 p.m., according to witness Carly Holmes. She described the plane as going straight up and then shaking before plowing into the ground.
Witnesses at the scene said the plane involved in the crash was Galloping Ghost, No. 177. That plane is piloted by Jimmy Leeward, a real estate developer from Ocala, Fla.
Jeff Martinez, a KRNV weatherman, was just outside the air race grounds at the time of the crash. He said he saw a plane veer to the right and then “it just augured straight into the ground.”
He said he saw “pieces and parts going everywhere.”
The National Championship Air Races draws thousands of people every year in September to watch various military and civilian planes race.

‘Mass Casualty Situation’, Officials Say
A medical official says more than 75 people were injured in a plane crash at an air race event in Reno, 25 critically.
There’s no word on the number of deaths, but a spokesman for the race called it a “mass casualty situation.”
Stephanie Kruse, a spokeswoman for the Regional Emergency Medical Service Authority, said 25 people were critically injured and another 25 people were seriously injured in the crash.
She says the critically injured were considered to have life-threatening injuries. She says more than 25 other people were treated for minor injuries.
Kruse says so far, 40 people have been taken to local hospitals by ambulance and one person has been flown to a hospital.
The plane plunged into the stands at the National Championship Air Races at about 4:30 p.m.
