How Obama Bureaucrats Fueled Western Wildfires
(Malkin) The smell of singed air here is inescapable. Less than 50 miles west of my neighborhood, the latest wildfire has spread across [thousands of] acres. It’s the fifth active blaze to erupt in our state over the past month. But ashes aren’t the only things smoldering.
The Obama administration’s neglect of the federal government’s aerial tanker fleet raises acrid questions about its core public safety priorities. Bipartisan complaints goaded the White House into signing a Band-Aid fix last week. But it smacks more of election-year gesture politics: Too little, too late, too fake.
Ten years ago, the feds had a fleet of 44 firefighting planes. Today, the number is down to nine for the entire country. Last summer, Obama’s U.S. Forest Service canceled a key federal contract with Sacramento-based Aero Union just as last season’s wildfires were raging. Aero Union had supplied eight vital air tankers to Washington’s dwindling aerial firefighting fleet. Two weeks later, the company closed down, and 60 employees lost their jobs. Aero Union had been a leader in the business for a half-century.
Why were they grounded? U.S. Forest Service bureaucrats and some media accounts cite “safety” concerns. But as California GOP Rep. Dan Lungren noted in a letter obtained by reporter Audrey Hudson of the conservative D.C. newspaper Human Events last year, a Federal Aviation Administration representative said it was a contractual/compliance matter, not safety, that doomed Aero Union’s fleet.
“I am deeply troubled by the Forest Service’s sudden action,” Lungren warned, “particularly as California enters into the fire season. Our aerial firefighting fleet is already seriously undercapitalized.” Both the U.S. Government Accountability Office and the Department of Agriculture’s Inspector General have been critical of the Forest Service’s handling of the matter. All of this has been known to the Obama administration since it took the reins in 2009.
Nine months after Lungren’s warning, the deadly High Park fire in Larimer County, Colo., claimed a grandmother’s life, destroyed 189 homes and scorched nearly 60,000 acres. Arizona, New Mexico, Washington and Wyoming also have battled infernos this summer.
After months of dire red flags from a diverse group of politicians ranging from Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry and Arizona GOP Sen. Jon Kyl to Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden and New Mexico Democratic Sen. Jeff Bingaman, President Obama finally signed emergency legislation last week to expedite the contracting process. Obama will borrow planes from Canada and provide $24 million for new aerial tanker contracts.
But the money won’t come until next year, and the dog-and-pony rescue moves will not result in any immediate relief. “It’s nice, but this problem isn’t fixed with a stroke of the pen,” former Forest Service official and bomber pilot Tony Kern told the Denver Post this week. “You need to have the airplanes available now.” Veteran wildland firefighter and blogger Bill Gabbert of WildfireToday.com adds: “The USFS should have awarded contracts for at least 20 additional air tankers, not 7.”
Imagine if Obama’s Forest Service had been a private company. White House eco-radicals would be rushing to place their “boots on the necks” of the bureaucrats who made the fateful decision to put an experienced aerial tanker firm out of business as wildfires raged and the available rescue fleet shrunk.

Trayvon Martin / George Zimmerman Sanford, FL Police Chief Fired
(OS) Sanford police Chief Bill Lee, who stepped aside temporarily three months ago amid a national outcry over his department’s handling of the Trayvon Martin shooting, was fired Wednesday night.
City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. dismissed Lee, effective immediately.
“I have determined the police chief needs to have the trust and respect of the elected officials and the confidence of the entire community,” Bonaparte said in a statement. “We need to move forward with a police chief that all the citizens of Sanford can support. I have come to this decision in light of the escalating divisiveness that has taken hold of the city.”

National civil-rights leaders, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and NAACP President Ben Jealous, also had demanded Lee’s dismissal because his department did not arrest George Zimmerman for shooting Trayvon, an unarmed black 17-year-old, on Feb. 26.
A special prosecutor later charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder. Zimmerman, who says he acted in self-defense, is in the Seminole County Jail awaiting trial.
Lee, 52, stepped aside temporarily March 22, saying he had become a distraction, and he has been on paid administrative leave since. The night before he relinquished his duties, the Sanford City Commission had voted 3-2 that it had “no confidence” in Lee.
He tried to quit April 23, but the commission rejected his resignation. At the time, Bonaparte told commissioners that the resignation of the chief would help the city move ahead after weeks of controversy. Bonaparte could have fired Lee on his own, but he wanted the commission’s backing.

Fast And Furious SHOCKER! Cha, Right… Obama Asserts Executive Privilege
(CNN) An extraordinary House committee hearing began considering a contempt measure against Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday even though President Barack Obama asserted executive privilege over documents sought by the panel investigating the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting.
Committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California, said the White House assertion of executive privilege “falls short” of any reason to delay the hearing.
However, the committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, accused Issa of setting an “impossible standard” for Holder by demanding documents the attorney general was legally prohibited from providing.
Issa has “no interest in resolving” the dispute with Holder, Cummings said.
Wednesday’s development further heightened the drama of a high-profile showdown between Issa and Holder over the committee’s demand for the Department of Justice to turn over more documents about the Fast and Furious program.
The White House move means the Department of Justice can withhold the documents from the House Oversight Committee, which was scheduled to consider a contempt measure Wednesday against Holder.
“I write now to inform you that the president has asserted executive privilege over the relevant post-February 4, 2011, documents,” Deputy Attorney General James Cole wrote in a letter to Issa made public just before the committee meeting was scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Rodney King Dead
(FT) Rodney King, the man who was at the center of the infamous Los Angeles riots — was found dead this morning. He was 47.
TMZ.com sources indicate that King’s fiancée found him dead at the bottom of a pool.
King became famous in 1991 when he was the victim of police brutality.

Obama Grants Amnesty For 800,000 ILLEGAL Immigrants
(Fox) The Obama Administration will stop deporting and issue work permits to as many as 800,000 young illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have never committed a crime, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said Friday.
Napolitano said the change is needed to ensure enforcement resources are not expended on “low-priority cases” and are instead focused on people who “meet enforcement priorities.” But the move angered Republicans, who viewed it as an overreach by the administration on a matter that should be addressed legislatively.
“Today, I am announcing that effective immediately, young people brought to U.S. by no fault of their own and meet several criteria no longer are removed from country or entered into removal proceedings,” Napolitano said in a conference call with reporters.
The election-year announcement was met with surprise and question by at least one GOP lawmaker.
“This is another example of executive overreach,” Florida Rep. Allen West told Fox News.

West said he just learned about the policy change and that such a move should have come through legislation on Capitol Hill where it could be debated.
“That’s how we do business in the United States,” said West.

The policy change was reported first by The Associated Press. Two senior administration officials told the wire service the policy partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the U.S. illegally, but who have attended college or served in the military.

Obama Ignores Questions About Amnesty Decision
(DC) President Barack Obama declined to take any questions from reporters about his controversial and significant decision to offer a de-facto amnesty to at least 800,000 foreigners aged 15 to 30.
The president turned and walked away from reporters at the end of an early afternoon address in the White House’s Rose Garden, even though two reporters called out questions about his decision.
The announcement of the decision comes at a time of record unemployment among low-skilled workers, Hispanics and African-Americans.
For example, less than 50 percent of younger African-Americans have full-time jobs, according to data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Unemployment among Hispanics, youth and African-Americans rose in May, according to the BLS.
Obama justified his immigration decision by saying it is supported by business lobbies.
The president has often used this no-questions strategy when making important or poll-boosting announcements.

Obama’s deputy, Janet Napolitano, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, followed the same strategy Friday during a morning telephone press-conference. She gave a short statement and then left the conference while two officials provided not-for-attribution answers to selected reporters’ questions.
The reporters selected to offer questions included established media outlets and Spanish-language outlets. The chosen outlets included the Los Angeles Times, CNN, National Journal, Univision, The New York Times and La Prensa.
The selected reporters did not ask about the controversial impact on American workers.
During the Rose Garden event, Obama depicted the immigrants as Americans except for their legal status.
This pitch blurred the political distinction between Americans and foreigners, and helps him portray the illegal immigrants as deserving of American citizenship.
American citizenship is a highly valued status, because it provides Americans with legal protections worldwide and gives them access to the shared wealth and sympathy of other Americans. Millions of illegal immigrants have risked their lives to win the prize for themselves and their children.
Obama has been under increased pressure from Hispanic lobbies to provide access to citizenship for up to 10 million illegal immigrants, whose arrival will boost the clout of ethnic lobbies.

Chinese Woman Seven Months Pregnant Beaten, Forcibly Aborted
(LifeNews) A human rights group has learned that a woman was forcibly aborted at seven months of pregnancy on June 3 in Shanxi Province, China.
Women’s Rights Without Frontiers informed LifeNews that a new report from the China-based human rights organization 64Tianwang indicates the woman, Feng Jianmei, was beaten and dragged into a vehicle by a group of family planning officials while her husband, Deng Jiyuan, was out working.
The officials asked for RMB 40,000 in fines from Feng Jianmei’s family and, when they did not receive the money, they forcibly aborted Feng at seven months, laying the body of her aborted baby next to her in the bed. Feng is under medical treatment in Ankang City, Zhenpin County, Zengjia Town, Yupin village.
Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, said, “This is an outrage. No legitimate government would commit or tolerate such an act.”
“Those who are responsible should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity,” Littlejohn said. “WRWF calls on the United States government and the leaders of the free world to strongly condemn forced abortion and all coercive family planning in China.”
The report comes after global pressure appeared to have stopped Chinese family planning officials in Changsha, Hunan province from following through with a threatened forced abortion on a woman and her unborn baby in the fifth month of pregnancy.
As LifeNews reported last week, the human rights group ChinaAid, which worked closely with Chen to help him leave China, learned that a 37-year-old woman, Cao Ruyi, was dragged from her home and beaten on the morning of June 6 by more than a dozen Chinese family planning officials. The mother, pregnant with a five month old unborn child, was accused of violating China’s “one child” policy because she and her husband, Li Fu, already have a six-year-old daughter.
Later, Cao’s husband Li Fu told ChinaAid founder and president Bob Fu that Cao Ruyi was allowed to return home on Sunday and added that the surveillance personnel from the local family planning office had also been called off. Fu said he “expressed their thanks to ChinaAid for exposing the violent manner in which the local family planning officials dragged his wife to the hospital and the threat of performing a forced abortion on her.”
“He said the domestic and international attention and concern that Fu’s publicity efforts elicited was the reason Ms. Cao was allowed to return home,” Fu added.
However, before her release from the hospital, Cao was forced to sign a guarantee that she will pay a 10,000 yuan (nearly US $1500) “pregnancy termination deposit fee,” which will not be returned if she insists on keeping her baby. Instead the deposit will serve as partial payment of her fine for giving birth to a baby without government permission. She will also be required to pay a “social burden compensation fee” of US $25,000.
“Nonetheless, this is a welcome change,” Fu said. “ChinaAid expresses its thanks for the timely prayers of many brothers and sisters and for the concern expressed by many in the international community, most notably U.S. congressman Chris Smith who contacted the Hunan provincial and Changsha municipal governments directly.”
“Some Chinese netizens have also traveled to Changsha to lodge a formal protest with the procuratorate about Ms. Cao’s illegal detention by local officials. Many house church Christians prayed for Ms. Cao’s unborn child and called the couple to encourage and express support for them,” Fu continued.

Did White House know about Fast & Furious? ‘I don’t know,’ Holder testifies
(FOX News) Attorney General Eric Holder appeared to frustrate House GOP lawmakers Thursday when asked which high-ranking Obama administration officials knew about an ill-conceived tactic in the Justice Department’s Fast and Furious weapons sting.
In a tense exchange in which GOP Rep. Lamar Smith asked Holder whether he or anybody else in the Justice Department told the White House about a so-called gun-walking tactic after it appeared to contribute to the 2010 death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent, Holder replied, ‘I don’t know.’
The exchange occurred during a hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee, on which Smith is the chairman.
‘When was anyone in the White House informed of the tactics used under Operation Fast and Furious?’ asked Smith, R-Texas.
Holder replied: ‘I don’t know?’
When Smith asked Holder if he personally told the White House, Holder replied: ‘There was contact between staff…I don’t myself remember any direct contact.’
Holder is expected later in the hearing to face his toughest accuser and antagonist on Capitol Hill when he comes face to face with GOP Rep. Darrell Issa, who is expected to ask questions about new information regarding the botched Fast and Furious operation.
Issa, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, released information Monday about six wiretap applications that he says prove high-ranking Justice Department officials knew about the gun-walking tactic.
Issa, R-Calif., says the applications were signed by Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, Holder’s second in command.
The Obama administration has repeatedly said high-level Justice Department officials had no specific knowledge of the gun-walking tactic.

Today’s Democrats are Communists. Today’s Republicans are often yesterday’s Democrats. Of course, there are Independents. I fall into the latter category. And by ‘Independent’ I mean on the conservative, far right-end of the spectrum. As-In, I aim to abide by the same US Constitution our lawless government uses to wipe its a$$.

Sadly, America got exactly what it wanted by investing its faith in government: entitlement, bailouts, abortions, independence from God, diversity, ’safety’ at the expense of freedom – gangrene that plagues this once healthy nation and urgently needs to be addressed.
Unfortunately, none of us know exactly what that looks like, or what it entails. I can say – with all certainty – removing gangrene-infected ligaments (corrupt systems) is going to be painful, yet necessary if the host wishes to survive.
Corrupt government will not preserve liberty. And the once ‘united’ states had better seek treatment. Now.
The Coming American Counterrevolution
(Wash Times) The partisan divide in the United States may be past the point of no return. It could well be a symptom of greater changes in the American polity that herald the advent of potentially revolutionary change.
On Monday, the Pew Research Center issued its annual report on American values, which revealed that the partisan divide is the greatest fissure in American society, eclipsing other points of division such as race, education and sex. “Men and women, whites, blacks and Hispanics, the highly religious and the less religious, and those with more and less education differ in many respects,” the report notes. “However, these differences have not grown in recent years, and for the most part pale in comparison to the overwhelming partisan divide we see today.”
This partisan divide is a recent phenomenon of the Bush-Obama years. A 2011 Gallup poll reported the percentage of self-identified Republican conservatives and Democratic liberals is increasing while moderates in both parties are declining. Research by Keith T. Poole of the University of California shows the partisan divide in Congress has accelerated in recent years and is worse than at any time since the end of the Civil War. A February Gallup report identifies Barack Obama as the most divisive president in 60 years of polling and George W. Bush as the second-most-devisive. Eight of the top 10 “most divided” years regarding the presidency occurred in an unbroken line from 2004 to the present.
These numbers show the partisan divide isn’t confined to the halls of Congress. They imply that the breakdown in cooperation in Washington is a symptom and expression of a widespread social phenomenon. Increasing numbers of Americans simply do not get along politically and would rather fight than compromise.

It’s not politically as much as ideologically. Liberals demand tolerance for all things perverse and find intolerable all things righteous. You can’t compromise with evil.

Greater changes may be coming. In a provocative essay in the June issue of the New Criterion, James Piereson of the William E. Simon Foundation suggests America may be “on the verge of a new upheaval, a ‘fourth revolution’ that will reshape U.S. politics for decades to come.” The previous three upheavals – the War for Independence; the Civil War; and the changes that attended the Great Depression, New Deal and World War II – were inflection points in American history after which the country began moving in a new direction. Those fundamental changes take place every 70 to 80 years. The sudden and growing divisions in the country may be precursors to another tectonic shift. “We may already be in the early stages of this 21st-century revolution,” Mr. Piereson writes.
There is opportunity in transformative periods. The political values that took root in the 1930s – such as using government to address all national problems – could be swept away in favor of less expensive, decentralized bureaucracy and greater personal freedom. If so, the Obama years will be remembered as the last hurrah of runaway liberalism before the return to fundamental American values.
