Obama Jokes About Shovel-Ready Jobs

(Fox NationPresident Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness met today in Durham, NC at Cree Inc., a company that manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting. One of the Council’s recommendations to President Obama was to streamline the federal permit process for construction and infrastructure projects. It was explained to Obama that the permitting process can delay projects for “months to years … and in many cases even cause projects to be abandoned … I’m sure that when you implemented the Recovery Act your staff briefed you on many of these challenges.” At this point, Obama smiled and interjected, “Shovel-ready was not as … uh .. shovel-ready as we expected.” The Council, led by GE’s Jeffrey Immelt, erupted in laughter.

Ah, ha, ha…   ha…     ha…

More On Obama’s Shovel-Ready Joke

(The Oval) Republicans said Obama’s “shovel-ready” comment is more proof of the shortcomings on his economic policies.

He’s a couple of years behind the rest of America,” said Brendan Buck, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. “But it’s refreshing that the president himself is now acknowledging the failure of his stimulus program.”

‘Refreshing’ Mr. Boehner? ‘Refreshing’?!

..President Obama says large-scale transportation projects that are supposedly shovel-ready may not provide the quick boost for jobs needed in the halting American economic recovery..Speaking Thursday at the White House jobs summit aimed at addressing persistent unemployment the president told transportation executives and state officials he was skeptical about the impact big infrastructure projects would have in the near term..The term shovel-ready lets be honest it doesnt always live up to its billing Obama said..The president said big projects are important in the long term but may not provide substantial jobs in the near term. The tension weve been seeing is that what is good for the longer term may not work as an immediate short-term stimulus he said..On broader funding issues Obama said he favored the creation of an infrastructure bank to use private and public money and he said help take politics out of the existing transportation project planning……………………………. Obama .I was under the impression President Obama that the need to RUSH through the Stimulus Package was because we needed to get these shovel ready jobs moving forward and time was critical.
