(FOX40) DENAIR, CA – 13-year-old Cody Alicea rides with an American flag on the back of his bike. He says he does this to be patriotic and to honor veterans, like his own grandfather, Robert. He’s had the flag on his bike for two months but Monday, was asked told to take it down. A school official at Denair Middle School told Cody some students had been complaining about the flag and it was no longer allowed on school property. “In this country were supposed to be free,” said Cody. “And I should be able to wave my flag wherever I want to. And theyre telling me I cant.” Codys grandfather says the school was concerned about racial tensions or uprisings because of the flag. He feels if there was really a problem it should have been brought up two months ago, not during Veterans week. “No action should be taken. We dont want any repercussion,” said Roger. “We just want Cody to be proud of what hes doing.”

You would think schools that participate in this type of behavior should absolutey be defunded and cut off from federal programs/ federal funding and put out of business. It IS anti-american and subversive. This is AMERICA, if these folks don’t like it they should leave- AND DO SO IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can’t be both American and anti-American. Seriously.
However, the goal of these schools here appears to be in-line with globalism you see, and when these kids all grow up and take over the ropes, by then we’ll all be calling ourselves citizens of the world.
Those who do not like our foundation need to leave immediately. This country was built on freedom and christianity.

My husband died of his war injuries. I deeply resent the present attitude towards our American patriotism. This is AMERICA. Thos who don’t like to admit that can move to another country!

We protect the rights of individuals who desecrate our flag as political expression. Why do we not protect the rights of individuals who proudly display our flag as political expression? The Constitution does not protect only negative views.

This is just sad, pathetic and silly. I’m a veteran who also works for a school system. We would NEVER force a child to do that. This child wasn’t waving around the nazi flag.. its a US flag… this is the U.S.A….. there is something WRONG with flying the flag of the country you live in now?… They are scared because of racial tensions? Why don’t they look at how they are running their school system then, I’m pretty sure if someone takes a close look at it, they’ll realize its one giant screw-up.

Some people, like the ass-hole principle, would feel different about our flag if they would have earned the right to fly our nation’s flag with American blood. Why has the Governor of this State not fired this ass-hole?

Dear DUSD Community,
As most of you are aware, we’ve had a school issue that has risen to the level of national news
coverage. This incident occurred on Monday, November 8th when a campus supervisor asked
one of our middle school students to remove an American flag from his bicycle while he was on
school grounds. This request was based on concerns for the student’s immediate safety, and to
give school staff time to investigate a potentially dangerous situation, involving threats to this
student.
While it is our responsibility to ensure that all students are safe at school, we also support every
students’ First Amendment rights. We are dealing with the students who threatened to disrupt
the school environment. And, the student involved in this incident is now again proudly
displaying his flag.
We recognize that we live in the greatest country in the world and that we should all be proud to
display the American flag. It’s unfortunate that the entire story of this issue has not been fully
portrayed in the media. Denair is a wonderful community, filled with hard working committed
citizens who support our schools and our democracy.
I’m proud to lead the schools in this community and sincerely hope we can return the focus to
our children and their education. We will be addressing the issue with our Board at our regular
meeting Thursday, November 18 in the District Leadership room located at 3460 Lester Road,
Denair.
