On any given day over half of the world’s population receives its news from the Associated Press (AP) via mainstream media. How so? First, breaking news and information is sent to AP from reporters worldwide, typically working at news companies that subscribe to the cooperative. Then, AP polices its member-submitted stories before distributing them to affiliates around the globe.
Currently, AP serves over 1,700 newspapers and 5,000 television/radio outlets in the United States — this does not include their vast international media subscriber base. In simple terms, the Associated Press is a massive information filter that controls the quantity, quality and general content of news most Americans receive.
How bias or influential is the Associated Press? Just last week AP released this directive to their members regarding its editorial ‘standards’ as applied to Koran burning,
“Should the event happen on Saturday, the AP will not distribute images or audio that specifically show Qurans being burned, and will not provide detailed text descriptions of the burning,” managing editor Thomas Kent wrote to AP staff. “AP policy is not to provide coverage of events that are gratuitously manufactured to provoke and offend.”
Shortly after the decree, numerous media organizations and their disciples fell all over themselves rushing to support AP’s decision, ignorant of the fact AP has no problem breaking their own rules when convenient.
Recent AP stories:
US Flag-Burning Marks War Anniversary
“BAGHDAD (AP)– American flags were set on fire Friday to chants of “no, no for occupation” as followers of an anti-U.S. Shiite cleric marked the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war.”
Afghans Protest Quran Burning Plan, Torch US Flag
“KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – Hundreds of angry Afghans burned a U.S. flag and chanted “Death to the Christians” on Thursday to protest plans by a small American church to torch copies of the Muslim holy book on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.”
NC Church Plans To Burn Bibles, Christian Books
“Asheville, NC (AP) — A North Carolina pastor says his church plans to burn Bibles and books by Christian authors on Halloween to light a fire under true believers.”
On August 19, 2010, AP released this Newspeak command,
“We should continue to avoid the phrase ‘ground zero mosque’ or ‘mosque at ground zero’ on all platforms.”
Of course no media conspiracy would be complete without talking points…
“We can refer to the project as a mosque, or as a proposed Islamic center that includes a mosque. It may be useful in some stories to note that Muslim prayer services have been held since 2009 in the building that the new project will replace. The proposal is to create a new, larger Islamic community center that would include a mosque, a swimming pool, gym, auditorium and other facilities.”
Obama Retains Wide Approval In Europe
“President Barack Obama’s popular support has softened at home, but he still has plenty of fans in Europe, a poll released Wednesday found. [...] For Europeans, Obama may remain a welcome contrast to his predecessor, President George W. Bush, who was unpopular in much of Europe.”
Sadly, too many unquestioning minds will continue to allow this highly-controlled method of propaganda to shape their reality.
